Car Accidents

car crash, car accident attorneys

Car accidents represent the majority of motor vehicle accidents in the United States. According to the accident statistics released by the United States Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were more than 40,000 deaths in 2006 due to motor vehicle collisions.

Auto accident statistics:

  • On average, there are more than 6 million car accidents on U.S. roads annually.
  • More than 3 million people are injured due to auto accidents, with more than 2 million of these resulting in permanent injuries.
  • Every 12 minutes, one person dies because of a car accident.
  • Every 14 seconds, a car accident results in an injured victim.

What to do if you are in a car accident

  • Stop your car and move it to the safest location you can find without leaving the accident scene. Try to be as far from moving traffic as possible.
  • Call 911 to get police and medical help.
  • Make sure that everyone is out of danger and write down as much information as you can while you are at the scene. If you cannot get it all down at the scene, write down additional information as soon as possible, while your memory is fresh.
