Minimum Wage Violations
Federal law requires that most employees receive a wage of at least $7.25 per hour, as of July 24, 2009. In California, the minimum wage is $8.00 per hour, effective January 1, 2008.
Employers who fail or refuse to pay minimum wages to non-exempt employees could be required to pay large sums of back wages and penalties. There are some limited circumstances where an employer is allowed to pay less than minimum wages.
