CONSUMER ALERT: Students Scammed by Unaccredited Ultrasound Tech Schools

UPDATE:  Next senate committee hearing on for-profit schools is 9/30/10 at 10am EST

July 6, 2010

Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff have represented more than 150 students who have been victims of unscrupulous ultrasound schools

Common problems include:

  • Lying about CAAHEP Accreditation
  • Lying about the ability to obtain employment following graduation
  • Lying about the ability to sit for the ARDMS exam following graduation
  • Providing insufficient clinical sites
  • Failure to provide sufficient ultrasound machines for training
  • Incompetent instructors

It appears that the worst programs are those that are unaccredited.  Graduates from these programs are often unable to find employment or can only find employment that is part time or in remote locations.  Students go thousands into debt and stop working for 18 months or more only to be left with nothing but a worthless certificate.

Some Ultrasound Programs that we are currently investigating include:

  1. American Medical Sciences Center
  2. ATI College
  3. California Nurses & Vocational Institute
  4. Career Colleges of America
  5. Central California School of Continuing Education
  6. College of Career Training
  7. College of Nursing & Technology
  8. Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts
  9. High Desert Medical College, Inc.
  10. Kaplan College (formerly known as Maric College)
  11. Lincoln University
  12. Modern Technology School
  13. Newbridge College, Inc.
  14. PCI College
  15. West Coast Ultrasound Institute

However, there are many more of these schools throughout the country.  If you attended an unaccredited ultrasound program and were unable to obtain the employment that was promised to you when the program began, we would like to hear from you.  Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff can represent students anywhere in the country.
